Tearful Smile (Poem)
The following poem is based on my school life, the most treasured period of my life yet, which recently came to an end. I even got the golden opportunity to recite it at my farewell ceremony!! Try to spot the hidden poetic devices symbolising one’s experiences in a school and let me know in the comments ☺ .
I still remember how it all began, how years and years ago,
A little boy stepped into a new world, steady and slow.
Little did he know, that a wonderful, magical journey awaited him,
One full of mundane, yet magnificent moments, some euphoric, some grim.
Everything he had ever imagined, came to life inside that building,
Mischief, pranks, inside jokes, along with studying.
As the years passed by, it was only inevitable,
For him to lose his innocence, to do some mischief, even more memorable!
All the memories, even the unfortunate ones, got a spot in that precious piece of art,
Friends, enemies, frenemies, crushes, all of them became an irreplaceable part.
As the time was passing, there was a tumultuous transition in the weather,
For it had defiantly dawned upon him, that the journey couldn’t last forever.
As the saga was nearing its conclusion, 12 years had passed by,
He was all grown up now, but deep inside his heart, there still lived that little boy.
It was time to say goodbye now, for it had been quite a while,
As he glanced at the building a final time, he had a thousand memories in his mind, and on his face, a warm, tearful smile.
